Oamaru is nestled on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Oamaru is the perfect stop over when travelling between Dunedin and Christchurch, the South Island’s two largest cities. Stay with us at Northstar Motel while you’re passing through! We offer great family, group and corporate accommodation.
Oamaru, is in North Otago and has a small-town feel, with around 12,600 residents. Be sure to check out the stunning historic Victorian buildings in the town centre and the Blue Penguin Colony on the beach, two of Oamaru’s most iconic attractions.
Although close to Central Otago, with its continental climate, Oamaru’s location on the coast, means only a small difference in temperatures between summer and winter. Temperatures in summer range from 15-23 deg C, and from 5-13 deg C in winter.
Oamaru is part of the Waitaki District, and is a thriving agricultural haven. The local land is used for sheep farming for meat and wool, dairy farming. There are also small horticulture and viticulture businesses, which provide the district with fresh fruit and vegetables. It is from these primary industries that Northstar Motel’s Restaurant and Bar source many of their ingredients.
